What is Invisalign Teen?
Invisalign Teen is a system of aligners that shift your teeth and reposition your jaw and palette. The aligners put gentle pressure on your teeth and mouth to improve your bite and the positioning of your teeth. You’ll wear an aligner for a week or two before switching to a new one; each aligner is slightly different to account for shifts in your teeth and jaw placement.
Preparing for Invisalign Teen
The process for Invisalign Teen begins with a 3D scan of your teeth. We complete this scan in a couple of minutes using advanced technology that produces thousands of images per second. Using innovative software and your 3D images, we create your Invisalign Teen treatment plan and produce your aligners. Your aligners are made from soft, medical-grade plastic.
What happens after Invisalign Teen?
Once you’ve finished your Invisalign Teen treatment plan, you’ll begin wearing a retainer. Your retainer will hold your teeth into their new positions. At first, you’ll typically need to wear your retainer all the time. After a year or so, many patients can switch to only wearing their retainer some of the time (such as a few days a week or at night).
What are the benefits?
There are multiple benefits associated with Invisalign Teen:
Can handle complex orthodontic problems
It’s a misconception that Invisalign is only suitable for minor issues. Technological advancements have expanded the problems that Invisalign Teen can successfully treat. For some orthodontic plans, we use SmartForce attachments with the clear aligners. SmartForce attachments are tooth-colored and attach to your teeth to exert additional pressure. These attachments expand the capabilities of Invisalign treatment to handle more severe orthodontic problems.
You don’t have to change your eating or dental hygiene habits
Many teens dread wearing traditional braces due to the significant changes required to their diets. Sticky or gummy foods, hard or crunchy foods, gum, and foods that you have to bite into (like apples) are just a few things that are off the menu. It’s also harder to properly brush and floss when you’re wearing braces. With Invisalign Teen, you’re allowed to remove your aligners when eating, drinking, brushing, or flossing; just make sure to promptly put them back in so that you meet the requirements for your treatment plan.
Invisalign Teen is discreet
Most people won’t be able to tell that you’re wearing clear Invisalign aligners. The aligners are nearly invisible and maintain a snug fit around your teeth. When taking pictures or videos, your aligners won’t detract from your smile.
